Day 101 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • 101 days post-#SudanCoup, a reminder that a least 80 lives have been taken by authorities, all while practicing their right to peaceful protest. Hundreds remain in unlawful detention or missing nationwide. The country remains without a government and under emergency law. #SudanCoup leaders' decisions have led to faster economic decline, severe insecurity and displacement, particularly in the South Kordofan and Darfur regions.

  • #SudanCoup leaders Burhan and Himedti visited Elfashir today to launch a program to contain security in Darfur. The program, which was decided in late November, is only now being implemented, despite continued militia attacks and the raiding of UNAMID and WFP headquarters, which led to WFP halting work in Darfur.

  • Elfashir Residents came out in protest, rejecting the generals' presence, and were attacked by authorities, who teargassed and beat protesters. 5 people were injured according to Sudan Doctors Committee, and at least 2 activists arrested, according to Kranik (Elfashir) Resistance Committees.

  • USAID has decided to release $108 million of the $700 million in assistance frozen post-#SudanCoup to support civil society growth, human rights work, independent media and agriculture businesses "outside the government."
