Day 104 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Protests continued in different parts of Sudan today, part of the schedule of resistance activities for this first week of February and leading up to #Feb7March, the 17th round of nationwide mass demos against #SudanCoup.
In Atbara, residents came out in protest against a train of pro-#SudanCoup protesters from traveling to Khartoum to participate in an event supporting Generals Burhan and Himedti. 12 protesters were arrested, and the military-guarded train left the station.
The Northern State Farmers Association has announced a statewide shutdown, including a halt of payment on taxes and all government fees, following #SudanCoup authorities' refusal to cancel the tariff hike on electricity. A reminder that this policy is what prompted the barricading of the Sudan-Egypt highway. Later that evening, protesters reported an attempt by Egyptian truck drivers to dismantle the Hamdab Bridge barricade on the Sudan-Egypt highway: "We contained the situation, but if the government can't even stop us, the Egyptians will not. As long as we have demands, no one will."
Gunfire continued into the evening in Elfashir, North Darfur today after the killing of 2 brigadiers of the Sudanese Coalition by State security forces at UNAMID HQ. It is unclear what caused the altercation.
