Day 27 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • On this 27th day of General Burhan's orchestrated #SudanCoup, people across the country are gearing up for #Nov21March, the fourth nationwide mass demonstration of its kind to resist military rule.

  • Attacks have continued in Khartoum, particularly Bahri, for most of the day today - a way to not only silence protesters, but also to dissuade them from coming out tomorrow. Despite the attack, resistance activities continued across the city, and across Sudan. In Bahri, a massive protest made its way to the home of Sit Alnufoor, the 25 year old woman who was shot dead by coup forces during the November 17 mass demonstration. Silent protests, public speeches and night demonstrations also took place in Sinnar, Nyala, as well as different areas of Khartoum.

  • In a statement to the press, Khartoum police claimed protesters burned down a police station. Revolutionaries quickly came to action to deny and disprove the claims, including taking video of the station, which they revealed was already abandoned and not in use. Since the 2018/2019 revolution, military authorities have continued to try to spin the narrative to portray the movement to be violent. Even after the November 17 demonstrations, police claimed protesters attacked authorities, though there is no evidence to prove this.

  • Meanwhile, proof of authorities' violence and violations against human rights continues to surface. Ali Farsab, journalist arrested by coup forces on November 17, was released today, with clear evidence he was tortured: a broken finger, head injury and bootprints on his shirt, indicating that officers stomped on him.

  • The movement also claimed its latest martyr: 16 year old Mohamed Adam Haroun died in hospital last night as a result of injuries he sustained after he was shot by coup forces during the November 17 demonstrations.
