Day 30 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Two days after Hamdok and the General signed a political agreement to release all detainees and form a new transitional government, only 5 political detainees have been released; the rest remain in unlawful imprisonment. Not only that, arrests continue across the country, targeting activists and resistance committee members, as well as "dissident" members of the previous administration.
Emergency trials also continue, including in ElObeid, where 19 resistance committee members are on trial for organizing protests against the coup.
Secretary General of the Zakat Authority Ahmed Karmosh was arrested today, following his rejection of dismissal by the military. He is charged with "undermining the constitution", as well as "withholding documents". According to his family: "we brought proof the charges don't even exist, but we were told a letter from Burhan must be issued for his release."
Resistance activities of all kinds continue to be held: silent protests, public forums, first aid training, blood drives and neighborhood protests calling for another millions march, set to happen on Thursday, nationwide.
Funfact: Hamdok has been making the rounds of international media in the last couple of days since his release; however, his first address to the Sudanese people since signing the agreement, originally set to happen on national TV today, was canceled for unknown reasons - confirming some people's suspicions that Hamdok's rehiring is the military's way of appeasing external powers and setting them at ease, to provide them increased legitimacy as they continue on their quest to build another version of the Bashir regime.
