Day 34 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Unlawful arrests continue in Zalingei, Central Darfur; protesters and activists are still being unlawfully held by #SudanCoup forces, despite the release of detainees in other parts of the country.
In Khartoum, SPA member Ismael Ishag and other detainees held in the (former) National Intelligence and Security Service center have entered their second day of hunger strike in protest of their unlawful detention; many of them have been held since October 25.
Jebel Awliya resistance committees report that a "significant number" of protesters and resistance committee members are still being held in Soba Prison - without charge or trial - despite the signing of a political agreement between Hamdok and Burhan that guaranteed their release.
Meanwhile, #SudanCoup council continues on its mission to hire a new government, with the appointment of a new director of intelligence by General Burhan. General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, who was hired as the new chief of intelligence, is a known Bashir loyalist who served under the previous regime as governor of South Kordofan.
Hamdok dismissed both the chief and vice-chief of police, a decision many speculate was taken to "appease the streets" after all violence committed by police on protesters in Khartoum in the past month. This same police chief was just appointed to the Africa seat in Interpol.
Resistance activities continued in several cities across Sudan - mostly silent protests in solidarity with survivors of the Jebel Moon massacre in W. Darfur. Protesters demanded the fall of #SudanCoup council, which they hold directly responsible for the instability in Darfur.
