Day 49 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Sudan is preparing for its 8th round of nationwide mass demonstrations for civilian rule since the military took power in a coup d'état on October 25. Silent protests took place in several cities across the country denouncing the violence against citizens in Darfur, and in rejection of #SudanCoup. In Khartoum, healthcare workers protested in front of the National Medical Council in rejection of military rule.
Upon Hamdok's directive, all state govt secretary generals have been dismissed, new individuals appointed in their place.
#SudanCoup Council is reportedly sending 3000 troops to Darfur to "contain" the security situation, after repeated militia attacks on civilians since early November. These troops are part of the joint task force created by the Council, which includes the military, RSF, police, intelligence services, and troops from armed resistance groups.
Yassir Arman, political advisor to PM Hamdok before #SudanCoup, has resigned. Arman was arrested on October 25 by the military, and held in unlawful detention for almost a month. He was released on November 22, one day after signing of political agreement between Hamdok and Burhan.
