Day 50 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • It has been 3 years to the day that protests broke out in the southeastern city of Damazin and launched the 2018/2019 revolution. Today, at least 22 cities came out in protest against #SudanCoup, demanding civilian rule. The map below gives an idea of where (confirmed) #Dec13March took place today (missing from the map: Sennar, Rabak, AlManagil, Shendi, AlNuhud, AlGiteina, AlDamer). It is important to note that because of poor infrastructure in Sudan, this is likely not a full list.

  • In Damazin and Kerma, one-day sit-ins were held.

  • Demonstrators in Central Khartoum making their way to the Presidential Palace were teargassed by #SudanCoup forces. Across the city, a massive demonstration made its way from Bahri to Omdurman, and spent most of the afternoon there until early evening. Afterwards, protesters in Omdurman were reportedly teargassed; some arrests were made. There are also reports that rubber bullets were used on protesters in Omdurman by #SudanCoup forces. Retaliation by authorities has allegedly resulted in tens of injuries - awaiting official report by Sudan Doctors Committee.

  • According to Radio Dabanga, the death toll in West Darfur after recent repeated armed militia attacks has reached 200. A member of the Committee for Stopping the Massacres in West Darfur said attacks "came at harvest time in a clear targeting to destroy livelihoods", describing them as premeditated and an act of genocide.
