Day 52 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • Sudan prepares for the next wave of mass demonstrations on December 19. Resistance activities continue across the country calling for participation in #Dec19March.

  • Khartoum State Ministry of Infrastructure & Transportation has announced the shutdown of Blue Nile Bridge connecting Khartoum to Bahri from December 18-20. The Ministry claims the bridge is being closed for maintenance, but activists suspect it is to prevent the flow of protesters into Khartoum on the 19th.

  • In a Twitter post yesterday, #SudanCoup Prime Minister Hamdok claimed delay in the formation of a new transitional government is caused by continued discussions with political forces on a national charter. This national charter "will [...] establish a mechanism to form a government of technocrats" and complete the transitional authority and monitoring structures.

  • #SudanCoup government has struck a deal with the "Northern Track" - a delegation allegedly representing the grievances of Northern Sudan - on sharing of national power and wealth distribution. The deal allegedly grants the delegation 30% of the north's resources and wide governing powers in the region.

  • An ICC delegation has arrived in Khartoum to discuss extradition of Omar Al Bashir, as well as former Defense Minister Abdelrahim Hussein, and former State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Ahmed Haroun. All 3 are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
