Day 71 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Sudan Doctors Committee reports more than 100 people injured in yesterday's demonstrations in Khartoum, not including those who were treated in the field. A Reminder that 3 were killed by #SudanCoup forces yesterday.
The Doctors Committee also reported attacks on Khartoum Teaching Hospital by #SudanCoup forces, who assaulted medics and maintenance workers, and fired teargas both inside the hospital and maintenance offices.
Resistance activities are escalating: Umbadda Resistance Committees released a callout for demonstrations to take place tomorrow, outside preset schedule for January. Several resistance committees in Khartoum have responded to the call, as well as Port Sudan, AlGineina and Wad AlMiheidi resistance committees.
Bank of Khartoum staff, Sudanese Bankers Association, resistance committees and other professional organizations protested in the capital today against the unfair dismissal of over 200 employees and warnings given to over 500, reportedly for participating in the resistance.
Through the official Twitter account of the #SudanCoup council, Burhan "asserted the necessity of forming a government of qualifications". It is unclear who Burhan is addressing, considering he took power by force and has been in power for 72 days and has yet to form a government.
In anticipation of tomorrow (and the rest of the month)'s protests, #SudanCoup leadership announced today that all bridges in Khartoum will be closed until further notice (with the exception of Soba and Halfaya bridges). Telecom/internet is also expected to be cut off tomorrow.
