Day 74 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • Today was the 12th wave of nationwide mass demonstrations against military rule since Burhan staged #SudanCoup on October 25. At least 30 cities came out in protest today, despite continued crackdown by authorities.

  • As with past mass demonstration days, #SudanCoup authorities cut off bridges and main roads in Khartoum. Once again, telecom and mobile data were disrupted in the capital, while other cities across the country remained online and with open phone lines.

  • The number of cities experiencing crackdown by #SudanCoup forces has increased today, with at least 4 cities (besides the capital) reporting their demonstrations teargassed, as well as mass arrests and the assault of protesters.

  • In the capital, authorities used stun grenades, rubber/live ammunition and skunk vehicles to contain protests. Crackdown across the tri-city capital was brutal today, with reports of #SudanCoup forces running protesters over with their trucks. There were also reports of snipers positioned on rooftops in Omdurman, which led to fatalities in the city.

  • According to the Sudan Doctors Committee, 3 people were killed in Khartoum today, all the result of direct shots with live ammunition. The total death toll since the beginning of #SudanCoup is now at 60.

  • Attacks on hospitals continued today, amidst a heavy influx of casualties. There are reports that #SudanCoup authorities surrounded AlArba'een Hospital in Omdurman. In Khartoum, authorities once again raided Khartoum Teaching Hospital, firing teargas into the emergency ward.

  • In ElObeid, activists reported neighborhood raids carried out by #SudanCoup forces. Similarly, video has surfaced this evening of hordes of authorities walking and driving through AlSajjana neighborhood of Khartoum damaging citizens' property.

  • These terror tactics harken back to the Bashir regime, and are further proof that it never left. With each passing day, Burhan and Himedti's regime is exposed for what it has always intended to be: just an extension of Bashir's 30-year dictatorship.
