Day 92 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
At least 23 cities came out today in the 15th round of nationwide mass demonstrations since the military staged a coup on October 25.
Despite Burhan's statement about enacting a "ceasefire", #SudanCoup authorities attacked peaceful protesters across the capital and in Medani with teargas, stun grenades, rubber bullets and live ammunition. Forces also chased protesters into neighborhoods and teargassed homes.
The violence of authorities led to the death of 3 people - 2 in Khartoum and 1 in Medani - all young men in their twenties murdered by regime desperate to hold onto power. As a result, the death toll since October 25 is now at 76.
As usual, #SudanCoup forces attacked hospitals, arresting medical staff (members of MSF) and preventing protesters from getting medical care.
Authorities later attacked the funeral procession of Mohamed Olaish, one of the young men killed by them earlier in the day.
Many arrests also reported, including the arrest of activist Mohamed Abdullah from the demonstration in Zalingei. Reminder: #SudanCoup authorities continue to target activists and RC members (whereabouts of women's rights activist Amira Osman still unknown).
In response to today's events, resistance committees of the city of Atbara have announced a total lockdown of the city and demonstrations tomorrow. In Medani, resistance committees announced an escalation of resistance activities, including barricading major roads around the city. In Khartoum, resistance committees of Burri declared a total lockdown of the neighborhood, and the barricading of several main roads surrounding it.
Insecurity remains a pressing issue in Darfur, one that was addressed in today's demonstration in Elfashir. Armed militia continue to attack citizens with impunity; one such attack earlier today killed one and injured 3 others as they rode a bus from Nyala to Elfashir.
Today, Meroë Locality Resistance Committees met to approve their draft political declaration, prepared by the Committee of Revolutionary Forces for Democratic Transition. Much like that proposed by Medani Resistance Committees, this one will presumably also be presented to the nation for discussion.
