Day 87 of the Military Coup

Summary of Events

  • Sudan has lost another citizen: a man identified by residents as John Chol Kwel was shot and killed by #SudanCoup forces this evening in Omdurman as they cleared barricades. The total death toll in Khartoum is now at 72.

  • The Sudan Doctors Committee reported a total of 167 people injured in Monday's demonstrations, including 2 in Medani, Jezira State. 52 casualties were gunshot wound victims, 3 of whom remain in unstable condition.

  • Arrests, random and targeted, were reported in Khartoum as #SudanCoup authorities continue to terrorize the public in their efforts to quell the resistance. Their efforts are futile; neighborhoods and main roads across the city were barricaded Day 2 of #SudanCivilDisobedience.

  • In Sennar, residents came out in honor of the late AlHaj Malik AlHaj, native of the city killed by #SudanCoup forces in Khartoum on January 17.

  • In Medani, high school students came out in protest in honor of their age-mates killed by authorities since October 25.

  • Sudan Doctors Union-Red Sea State has instructed all ER doctors at Port Sudan Hospital to go on strike from cold cases today and tomorrow. In Khartoum, the Sudan Doctors Union has instructed all doctors and medical professionals from 6 military-owned hospitals.

  • 47 prosecutors filed a petition today to the Attorney General denouncing the violence of #SudanCoup forces that constitutes crimes against humanity, and demanding the lifting of State of Emergency and immunity of authorities. They also announced they will be striking tomorrow.

  • Some Khartoum resistance committees have called for demonstrations in the capital tomorrow, under the theme "allegiance to the martyrs."

  • Burhan has appointed deputy ministers to head ministerial work, and a meeting was held today in which the national budget for this year was passed.
