Day 89 of the Military Coup
Summary of Events
Medani Resistance Committees announced the death of 25 year old Mohamed Faisal Khalafallah, who was shot by #SudanCoup forces on January 17 during the mass demonstrations in the city, and died as a result of his injuries.
Thousands came out to the funeral procession, which was attacked by #SudanCoup forces, who fired live ammunition, rubber bullets and teargas, injuring 12 people. Residents of the city responded by barricading main roads, and putting the city in lockdown.
A militia attack on the village of Adekong west of Gineina in West Darfur has left the village destroyed. Two died in the attack, tens injured, and the remaining residents were displaced, as insecurity continues to ravage Darfur with no attention from Governor Minawi.
In response to this type of neglect, which caused death of 5 ppl following a militia attack yesterday in North Darfur, residents of Zamzam IDP camp announced a sit-in blocking the Elfashir highway. Protesters are demanding justice for those killed and an end to insecurity.
Whatever little support Burhan still has in Sudan seems to be dwindling: over 100 retired officers of the armed forces have signed a statement demanding he immediately hand over power to civilians.
Revolutionary group Mulook Ishtibakat Almawakib: 17 year old Mohamed Adam and 2 others - arrested on January 13 and accused of the murder of a police brigadier - are undergoing extreme abuse by #SudanCoup authorities, including electrocution. Many speculate this is to coerce confessions out of them. Two women activists were also arrested today in connection to the case. #SudanCoup authorities have been targeting revolutionary groups like Mulook Ishtibakat Almawakeb and Ghadiboon, painting them as violent/troublemakers who operate outside the nonviolent parameters of the movement.
